Scientific due diligence evaluation for a series of dietary supplements
Clients
The client, a venture capitalist (VC), was looking to in-licensing a series of dietary supplements of a certain food company, which had a limited portfolio of non-clinical and clinical data. The client requested a scientific due diligence review and a high level development plan (incl. timings and costs) to be able to make a go/no-go decision.
Solution
The VC provided a preliminary overview of the results obtained in several CMC, non-clinical and clinical studies. Kinesis’ consultants performed additional literature searches for each individual component of the supplements. All documentation obtained (study reports , papers and raw data) was critically evaluated by Kinesis and concomitantly discussed with the VC. A final report was prepared on the positive and negative issues, outcomes and possible risks for taking the series of compounds in the VC portfolio.
Result
Kinesis enabled the VC to make a decision with a realistic idea of the scientific and market value of the products and the development costs, time and risks. The products were in-licensed and the development plan used as foundation for further improvement.
